Call of Duty: Vanguard is a first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. Released in November 2021, it returns the franchise to a World War II setting, focusing on multiple fronts of the war. The game follows a group of soldiers from different countries who come together to stop a secret Nazi project, giving players a more global perspective compared to earlier WWII titles in the series.
The campaign centers around Task Force One, a diverse team of characters inspired by real historical figures. Players experience different wartime environments, including battles in Europe, North Africa, and the Pacific. Each character brings a unique playstyle and background, which adds variety to the missions. The story aims to highlight lesser-known aspects of World War II while still delivering the fast-paced action the series is known for.
Multiplayer in Call of Duty: Vanguard introduces a wide selection of maps and modes at launch, along with a new combat pacing system that allows players to choose the intensity of matches. The game also features a robust weapon customization system, letting players modify guns with numerous attachments. While the core gameplay remains familiar to fans, it includes refinements to movement and gunplay that keep it feeling fresh.
In addition to campaign and multiplayer, the game includes a Zombies mode developed in collaboration with Treyarch. This mode continues the Dark Aether storyline and offers cooperative gameplay where players fight waves of undead enemies. Although reception to the Zombies experience was mixed at launch, Call of Duty: Vanguard still provides a complete package with multiple ways for players to engage with the game.
